Obituary of Iva L. Rusaw

Iva Lorraine Rusaw, 80, of Star Lake passed away Sunday evening, February 1, 2015 at Clifton Fine Hospital, Star Lake. She was born on March 22, 1934 in Newton Falls, the daughter of the late Warren Sr. and Mary (Brown) Bullock. She attended school in Newton Falls. On January 16, 1960 she married Bernard William Rusaw Sr. at First Baptist Church in Oswegatchie with Rev. John Blackman officiating. Before starting her family she worked at the Star Lake Inn as a chambermaid. After raising her children she worked as a caregiver for several friends and family in the community. She also worked at the Newton Falls Paper Mill snack bar and the Newton Falls Hotel as a chambermaid/cook. She loved spending time watching her grandchildren and attending their school and community functions. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo. Snow, sleet, rain or shine she and the rest of the ladies would make it, traveling all over the county. She also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and in her younger years roller skating with her husband. She is survived by her children, Bernard “Billy” Jr. (Doris) Rusaw of Payson, Utah, Mary “Sissy” Rusaw and her companion Paul Genter of West Carthage, NY, Thomas “Tom” Rusaw of Newtown Falls, NY, Lynne (Jimmy) Backus of Star Lake, NY, and Richard “Rick” (Michelle) Rusaw of Star Lake, NY; a brother Ivan “Tim” Bullock of Star Lake, NY; grandchildren: Nina, Inka, Joshua, Jessica, Justin, Anthony, Patrick, Katie, Keaton, Jordan, Marissa and Nathan; great grandchildren: Jayden and Spencer. Iva was predeceased by her husband Bernard, her parents, brothers: Johnny, Pete, Vernon, Warren Jr. Bullock ,and sisters: Evelyn Moore, June Kerr, Masie Daby and Rosemarie Jahne. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Star Lake Fire Hall on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 4pm with Richard Moore officiating.
