Obituary of Eileen Slate

Eileen Slate, 80, of Gouverneur and formerly of Oswegatchie died early Wednesday morning January 28, 2015 at her home in Gouverneur. Eileen McCormick Slate was born on February 7, 1934 in Saranac Lake, NY. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Rule) McCormick. She attended Saranac Lake Schools. On September 14, 1957 she married Hermon “Ted” Slate at the Church of St. Bernard in Saranac Lake. Rev. Peter R. Riani celebrated the nuptial mass. She was a waitress and bartender at various establishments over the years, Chapel’s Bar in Star Lake and Stone Manor Diner in Cranberry Lake. She enjoyed playing cards, she was a fantastic gardener a skill which she used to raise her family, and the consummate do-it-yourselfer. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Star Lake Marvin Eno Post # 1539 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her sons; George Slate, Stanley Slate and his wife Genevia, Brian Slate and his wife Julie all of Texas. She is survived by her daughters Michelle Hayes and her husband Pete of Gouverneur, Kathieanne Fuller and her husband John of Gouverneur and Jayne Stiles and her husband Mike of Vero Beach, Florida. She is survived by her siblings; Dickie McCormick of Saranac Lake, Donna Moody and her husband Rod of Morrisonville, Sharon Barry and her husband Rich of Saranac Lake, Vivian Eccelston of Saranac Lake and Kathryn “Kaky” Becker of Long Island. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Donations in Eileen’s memory may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley 6805 US Hwy 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
